When it rains, it pours.Once I got hired for my job at Meals-on-Wheels, I was offered two more part-time jobs.
Being the penny-pincher I am and being sick of living on a college-student salary, I accepted all three.
I saw an ad in the paper for a freelance writer for the Daily Herald. I applied, wrote a spec article (a test article that won't get printed but to test if you can write. Mine was about sego lilies. Yes, the state flower. It was groundbreaking. {cue sarcasm now}) and got an interview. The interview was more of a job offer and a 24-hour turn around for my first story idea. Yeech.
Well, my first article was printed last Saturday! It was a bit surreal to see my name is the paper, like some other Stephanie wrote it. This is the first time one of my articles has been published not related to PR, so it almost feels more legit.
I have to come up with all of my story ideas, so if you know anyone in northern Utah County who would make a great story, let me know. I'm running out of ideas.
Enough self-bragging now, I swear.
I love it! Especially the title! At first I thought the title was referring to YOU, but when I read the article I figured it out.
ReplyDeleteJust off the top of my head... maybe you could do an article on the health risks for the Fuddruckers Pounder Challenge. Or a preview for the movies coming out this Thanksgiving. Or find the unicyclist at BYU and interview him. Or discuss the high concentration of ice cream places in Utah. There you go.
Congrats Steph! That is so exciting! You never cease to amaze me. Good luck with your new job!
