Awesome and Awkward- May 2013 Edition

Awkward
  • Someone ate my lunch at work. The lunch that had my name written on it in Sharpie. I totally pulled a Ross with a "You ate my sandwich?! Myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy saaaannnndddwwiiiiich!!!!!!!!!"
  • Being asked to spot another yogi while doing handstands in yoga class. All cool except that he's a dude with hairy legs and billowy shorts. He's all grab my legs so I don't fall! and I'm hitting them against the wall, trying to not. touch. the. hairy. legs. It's not a yoga class without a minor spaz-out.
  • Walking by our game shelf only to hear the Scattegories timer keeps going off. When no one has touched it. And I was home alone...
  • Found my first gray hair. At 26 years old. what?!
Awesome
  • Jacob's new job (new since January) is two blocks away from my office. Hello, lunch dates and pick-nicks! And today we even drove to work together. Ever heard anything so romantic?
  • I have my own intern! While it seems trivial, having my own intern (someone who asks how I got where I am- what?!) is kind of like checking off one box in the "made it" category in life. The semester is over and I hired two interns for the summer. My ego is getting just too big at this point.
  • Celebrating my Grammy's 89th birthday! Water aerobics with the ladies was a highlight.
  • Coming home from a weekend trip just to pack up and leave for another. Any sightseeing tips for northern CA and the Redwoods?

*Awkward and Awesome first featured on The Daybook. Girl needs to start doing it again.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

 Awkward
  • Forgetting my sunglasses at home and having to wear Jacob's old broken pair that wouldn't stay on my face. (My question is why are we saving these?)
  • Being absolutely positive, beyond a shadow of a doubt, on my mother's future grave, that I turned in my library book....................only to find it under my passenger's seat in my car. Cue walk of shame to return the book AND pay my fine.
  • Refusing to be the last person to leave the office. It gets really dark, ok?
  • Receiving jicama from a co-worker and wondering who put a rock on my desk.

Awesome
  • Working myself to the bone at a work luau, complete with a candy lei and hula dancers. Don't mind if I do.....
  • A FOUR day weekend!! Four-tens is the best work schedule ever. Holidays are 4 day weekends for me, which equals heaven.
  • Watching Alias like it is going out of style. I. can't. get. enough. I'm thinking we'll name our children Sydney and Vaughn. We're obsessed.
  • Learning what to do with my jicama. Stir-fry, anyone? Thank you , Google.
  • Visiting my Grammy this weekend before playing with friends. I can't wait to see you sunshine!!!!

Have a great weekend! See you on the flip side.

What are you doing this weekend?

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward:
- Listening to a good song on my iPod at the gym and realizing I was rocking out and singing out loud. Nice.
- Forcing Jacob to watch 'Project Runway' with me and hearing him use the word 'garment' in a normal sentence. Tim Gunn would be so proud.
- The White House denying our tour request. The only responsible thing to do would be to get back at my congressman and not vote for him next year. I am a model of maturity.
- The stack of books by my bedside. I have started about 5 but nothing has stuck. Any suggestions?
- Setting my alarm for 5:45 a.m. to make it to graduation to get a good seat tomorrow.
- Helping out at a work banquet and watching people sneak out to avoid listening to the entertainment. It was that bad.
- Nightmares. I swear I am too old for them, right? Now where's my blankie....

Awesome:

- Going to a work conference and leaving so inspired. How often does that happen?
- Introducing my co-workers to Siegfried's Delicatessen, the best German deli in the western United States (or that I know of). Everyone left with armfuls of gummi bears and chocolate. I say job well done.
- Finishing up the final plans for our trip to Washington, D.C. I can't believe it is already here!
- Jacob finishing finals and graduating tomorrow! Next time you see me I will be married to a college graduate. Holla!

What has been awkward and awesome in your week?

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

One of my favorite blogs The Daybook features Awkward and Awesome Thursday. This is one of my favorite features, in addition to her rocking style. And I'm joining in this week. Reading her blog only gets awkward when Jacob asks whose blog I am reading and I admit that it is someone that I don't know, but I feel like I know. Does that ever happen to you? No? Just me? Oh, well. Awkward.

Awkward:
- Almost dying going down a semi-black diamond while skiing on Monday. I am clearly a "light blue" skier.
- Anything related to a gynocologist visit. 'Nuff said.
- No fry sauce at Arby's. Wha?!
- Deron Williams leaving the Jazz. This is the only sports related thing I have ever cared about. That is why this is awkward.
- Taking vitamins. Why are they sooo big?
- Listening to my iPod through my computer speakers at work and having Spice Girls come on. And I didn't change it.
- Having a 65-year-old man flirt with me at the Costco gas Pump. Smile and pump. Smile and pump. Smile and run.

Awesome:
- Not dying going down a semi-black diamond while skiing on Monday. I lived to tell the tale!
- Coming up with ideas with Jacob about how to invent the next Snuggie. Hey, it could happen.
- Opening up my sunroof and jamming to the radio for the first time this year.
- My job. Flexible schedule, awesome environment, good cause. I love my job!
- Finishing To Kill a Mockingbird. After two years of accepting the challenge. And after trying to start it four times. I did it. And I liked it.
- Booking our plane tickets for Jacob's graduation trip. D.C., here we come.
